Latest Alexa Traffic Ranking – Movers and Shakers of Nigerian Webspace

alexa rankings in NigeriaIts almost a year now that I have assessed and appraise the Alexa Rankings Update. I consider it ripe to do another update about Nigerian indigenous websites in terms of Alexa latest rankings. As Usual this doesn’t include Yahoo, Google and other foreign-based sites, which shared rankings in the Top 100 positions because, by my judgment, they aren’t indigenous websites.

Below is the latest Indigenous Nigerian Websites in order of Alexa traffic metrics, according to the latest updates by Alexa.

  1. Nairaland Forum 4,813 up from 5,361: same position as May 2008.
  2. Punch Newspapers 7,175 up from 9,312: same position as May 2008.
  3. Naija Hot Jobs 11,402 up from 33,828: 9th position in May 2008
  4. The Guardian Newspaper 9,925 up from 18,145: 5th in May 2008,
  5. Vanguard Newspaper 12,550 up from 24,204: 7th in May 2008,
  6. THE SUN News online 10,995  up from 13,297: 4th in May 2008
  7. JAMB 21,066 up from 423,930: drop-out in May 2008
  8. THISDAY Newspaper 11,103 up from 13,455: 10th in May 2008
  9. Guaranty Trust Bank 18,497 up from 25,920: 8th in May 2008
  10. Naija Pals 19,871 up from the blues in May 2008
  11. Zenith Bank 25,582 up from 34,833: 12th in May, 2008
  12. Careers Nigeria 24,504 up from 37,147: 17th in May 2008
  13. MTN Nigeria 25,767 up from 35,358 : 14th in May 2008
  14. Nigeria Best Forum NBF 32,036 up from the blues
  15. Tribune Newspaper 26,777 up from 32,507: 14th in May 2008
  16. Central Securities Clearing System CSCS 38,935 down from 13,490: 3rd in May 2008
  17. Sahara Reporters 27,125 up from the blues
  18. Nigerian News 39,939 up from the blues
  19. Daily Trust Newspaper from the blues
  20. Odili dot Net 23,611 from the blues
  21. F.I.T.C. Nigeria 90,756 up from the blues
  22. W.A.E.C. Direct 65,168 up from 54,465: 42nd in April 2008, Drop-out in May 2008
  23. Nigeria World 24,897 from the blues
  24. My Naija News 48,870 from the blues
  25. JOB NOW NOW 72,271 from the blues

Below are listed websites that dropped out from the Top 20 sites in the last 10 months.

  6. Nigerian Stock Exchange NSE
  7. All Jobs – Nigeria
  8. Telenovela Stories dot TV

  11. TotalFinaElf Oil and Gas
  12. Naija E Cash
  13. Stock Market Nigeria

Nine (9) new sites have emerged, as it were ‘from the blues’, in the last ten months and thirteen (13) old sites have sunk into oblivion.

    Thanks for the info, I beleive the data must have changed by now, Nairaland has always been at the top, I am looking foward to seeing a Nigerian site at the first 1000 sites globally

    Thank you for the good work you have done to narrow the alexa rankings. The movements reflect a growing shift to general interest information with only one financial services firm (CSCS) maintaining its membership of your Top 20.
    Maybe you should have a Top 50 or a sectoral Top 10 for proper insight into what this rankings means. It however does not detract from the results published. Keep up the good work. We will aim to do better without distorting the data collection process and hope that our work meets its objective and gains more followership as the days and months go bye. Yours to serve, Ibrahim

    Alexa can easily be manipulated these days. i have the tips to do that but its not worth it. its like buying your head in the sand.
